2011 Tiguan malfunction

My mom's 2011 tiguan been acting up lately, its ac just stopped working. it had the same issue before and the solution was to replace the compressor. took it to the same dealership and diagnosed a faulty variable displacement valve though they cant seem to find the specific part so they just quoted another compressor replacement and annoyingly it didnt solve one bit. Btw they mentioned they checked both high and low switches and apparently based on my research theres no such thing and only see one switch. now im thinking on having another opinion from another dealership. thoughts?

Usually, it's the nut holding the pulley to back off slightly, causing the compressor to not spin, but I recommend you go to another mechanic

i had a similar problem with my car's ac last year. took it to a different shop and they found the real issue. dealerships sometimes guess and overcharge. try a good local mechanic instead they might figure it out faster and cheaper.

If the new compressor didn't fix it, then definitely get a second opinion, from a specialist. and also yeah, good catch on the pressure switches, could be they're missing the real issue.

You did the right thing by getting a second opinion! It sounds like they might be a bit unsure about what's going on. And you're totally spot on—the Tiguan only has one pressure sensor, so no separate high and low switches to worry about.

By the way, did they happen to check for any AC fault codes? And when you turn on the AC, is the compressor clutch kicking in at all? Those details could really help us figure things out.
